The Faculty of Engineering and Science at the University of Agder, Grimstad, Norway is offering a PhD research fellowship position. The position is offered for a fulltime fixed term appointment in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) for a period of three years. The position is intended to address issues related to underwater communication systems. The successful applicant will have a master’s degree in a relevant field. Applicants who already hold a PhD degree will normally not be considered for the position. Women are especially encouraged to apply.
Study Subject(s): The position is intended to address issues related to underwater communication systems. Potential research topics for the PhD study include one or several of the following topics:
-Modelling, analysis, and simulation of underwater channels;
-Multiple input multiple?output (MIMO) communication systems for underwater communications;
-Cooperative communication techniques for underwater sensor networks;
-Performance analysis of underwater communication systems under realistic propagation conditions.

Eligibility: The following admission requirements apply to the PhD programme:
-The average grade for courses included in the bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) must be C (or equivalent) or higher;
-The average grade for courses included in the master’s degree (or equivalent) must be B (or equivalent) or higher;
-The master’s thesis (or equivalent) must have a grade B (or equivalent) or higher when the candidate is admitted to the PhD program.
-A high level of oral and written proficiency in English is required. Applicants from some countries must document their English proficiency through one of the following tests with the stated results or better:
(1)TOEFL – Test of English as a Foreign Language with a minimum score of 550 on the paper based
test (PBT), or 80 on the Internet based test (iBT);
(2)IELTS – International English Language Testing System, with a result of at least 6.5.
-Solid knowledge in mathematics, especially in stochastic processes, matrix analysis, linear algebra and signal theory;
-Excellent knowledge of English;
-Years of experience in using mathematical and numerical tools such as MATLAB;
-Solid knowledge of underwater communications, or mobile radio communications.
-The successful applicant will have a master’s degree in a relevant field and must be enthusiastic and greatly interested in basic and experimental research

Scholarship Description: The University of Agder invites applications for a full?time fixed?term appointment as PhD Research University of AgderFellow in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) for a period of three years, at the Department of ICT, Faculty of Engineering and Science. The PhD Research Fellow is expected to complete a doctoral dissertation within the period of employment. The position is located in Grimstad, Norway. The starting date is negotiable. The Faculty of Engineering and Science offers Master’s and PhD programmes in ICT. With more than 20 academic staff and an extensive network of Norwegian and international partner universities, the faculty, with its regional industrial partners, constitutes one of the largest research and development environments within mobile communications in Norway. The position is intended to address issues related to underwater communication systems. What does it cover? The position is remunerated according to the State salary scale, salary plan 17.515, code 1017, salary grade 50 (NOK 421 100). A 2 % compulsory pension contribution to the Norwegian Public Service. Pension Fund is deducted from the pay according to current statutory provision.
