PhD Position in Neural/Biomedical Engineering at University of Rhode Island in USA, 2016

Scholarship Description: A Doctoral (PhD) student position in Biomedical Engineering, University of Rhode Island, RI, USA is available starting as soon as possible. The PhD student will be a primary contributor to Dr. Mankodiya’s Wearable Biosensing Lab in the Department of Electrical, Computer, and Biomedical Engineering at the University of Rhode Island. S/he will help conceptualize, develop, and validate a multi-channel functional near infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) system including hardware, firmware, and signal processing algorithms. The system will also acquire clinical epilepsy data and perform analysis for spike/seizure detection and source localization. This position requires hands-on-experience developing biomedical instrumentation.  Primary areas of interest include: (1) analog circuit design and signal acquisition, (2) experience with fNIRS hardware prototyping and, (3) optode fabrication, and (6) human experiments (not in particular order of preference).

Janis Grundmanis Postgraduate Fellowship for Latvian Students in USA, 2016

Association for the Advancement of Baltic Studies (AABS) is offering postgraduate fellowship of $15,000 for Latvian citizens to undertake graduate study in the United States. Preference will be given to applicants studying in the field of humanities or social sciences. Applications which are specific and factual, and which establish clear and attainable goals have the best chances for favorable review. By accepting a $15,000 Grundmanis Fellowship, the recipient will enter into a binding contract with the AABS to return to Latvia upon completion of studies in the United States.

Scholarship Description: The Janis Grundmanis Postgraduate Fellowship, established in the memory of Dr. J?nis Grundmanis, is an annual fellowship of $15,000 for graduate study in the United States. Recipients of the fellowship must be citizens of the Republic of Latvia, speak Latvian, and have their permanent residence in Latvia. Preference will be given to applicants studying in the field of humanities or social sciences.

Duration of award(s): The fellowship will consist of ten payments of $1,500 each, the first to be made upon arrival in the U.S. and enrolment, and nine monthly payments thereafter, predicated on satisfactory academic performance. At the discretion of the Committee, payment of all or part of the fellowship award may be made directly to the college or university, instead of the student. In any case, the AABS must receive proof of initial registration, as well as certification of the courses for which the student is enrolled at the beginning of each semester or quarter, and an official transcript at the end of each semester or quarter, in addition to monthly essay-style progress reports from the Fellows which will trigger the monthly stipend payments. The fellowship may be supplemented by other sources.
What does it cover? The value of fellowship is $15,000. By accepting a $15,000 Grundmanis Fellowship, the recipient will enter into a binding contract with the AABS to return to Latvia upon completion of studies in the United States. Failure of the student to resume residency in Latvia within one month after finishing the academic year in the U.S. will result in the automatic conversion of the fellowship award to a student loan which must be repaid to the AABS in full, with interest, within three years of the conversion date, unless an extension for the stay abroad had been granted by the AABS.
Selection Criteria: Applications which are specific and factual, and which establish clear and attainable goals have the best chances for favorable review. The finalists will be interviewed in Riga in both Latvian and English. After a full review, the Committee will select the successful candidate(s), but the grants will be conditional upon acceptance of the students for full-time study at an accredited college or university in the United States for the full academic year.
Notification: Award notification will be made in March 2016.

NASF Scholarship Award for Undergraduate and Graduate Students in USA, 2015-2016

Applications are invited for NASF scholarship award program for the 2015-2016 academic year. Both national and international students can apply for these scholarships. Scholarships to college juniors, seniors and graduate students are offered in the amount of $1,500. Candidates must demonstrate academic achievement and involvement in extracurricular activities. Hubble Fellowship Program for Postdoctoral Scientists in USA, 2016

The Space Telescope Science Institute is awarding up to 17 new Hubble Fellowships for the 2016 program. Fellowships are available for highly qualified recent postdoctoral scientists to conduct independent research at United States Host Institutions chosen by each Fellow. The Fellowship provides support for up to three years at an annual stipend of approximately $67,500 plus benefits, and an additional allowance of $16,000 per year for travel and other research costs.

In addition, the Hubble Fellow can receive health insurance, relocation costs, and support for travel, computing services, publications, and other direct research costs. No additional stipend, salary, or other remuneration may be accepted from any other appointment (such as teaching), fellowship, or similar grant during the period of the Fellowship. Additional honorary named appointments intended to be linked with the title of “Hubble Fellow” are similarly not allowed.

Notification: The Hubble Fellowship Program Office at STScI will receive all application materials and supporting documents. These will be reviewed by the Hubble Fellowship Selection Committee in January 2016. Fellowship offers for 2016 will be made by early February 2016, and acceptance or refusal must be made before February 19, 2016. After this date additional offers may be made if any of the initial awards are not accepted.

CASVA Paul Mellon and Ailsa Mellon Bruce Visiting Senior Fellowship in USA, 2016-2017

The CASVA invites applications for visiting fellowship from scholars who have held the PhD for five years or more at the time of application, or who possess an equivalent record of professional accomplishment. The Center awards up to 12 short-term (up to 60 days) fellowships annually. Fellowships are for full-time research, and scholars are expected to reside in Washington and to participate in the activities of the Center throughout the fellowship period. The application deadline is March 21, 2016.
Study Subject(s): Fellowships are intended to support research in the history, theory, and criticism of the visual arts (painting, sculpture, architecture, landscape architecture, urbanism, prints and drawings, film, photography, decorative arts, industrial design, and other arts) of any geographical area and of any period. Visiting senior fellowship applications are also solicited from scholars in other disciplines whose work examine artifacts or have implications for the analysis and criticism of visual form.

Visiting senior fellowships are awarded without regard to the age or nationality of applicants. Applications are reviewed by an external selection committee composed of scholars in the history of art and related disciplines. Outside readers may assist in the evaluation of proposals.
Scholarship Open for International Students: Citizens of any nationality can apply for these fellowships.
Scholarship Description: The Center for Advanced Study in the Visual Arts announces its program for Paul Mellon and Ailsa Mellon Bruce Visiting Senior Fellowships. Fellowships are for full-time research, and scholars are expected to reside in Washington and to participate in the activities of the Center throughout the fellowship period. Lectures, colloquia, and informal discussions complement the fellowship program. Each visiting senior fellow is provided with a study. In addition, visiting senior fellows who relocate to Washington are provided with housing in apartments near the Gallery, subject to availability. Visiting senior fellows have access to the notable resources represented by the art collections, the library, and the image collections of the National Gallery of Art, as well as to the Library of Congress and other specialized research libraries and collections in the Washington area.
