PhD Position in Neural/Biomedical Engineering at University of Rhode Island in USA, 2016

Scholarship Description: A Doctoral (PhD) student position in Biomedical Engineering, University of Rhode Island, RI, USA is available starting as soon as possible. The PhD student will be a primary contributor to Dr. Mankodiya’s Wearable Biosensing Lab in the Department of Electrical, Computer, and Biomedical Engineering at the University of Rhode Island. S/he will help conceptualize, develop, and validate a multi-channel functional near infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) system including hardware, firmware, and signal processing algorithms. The system will also acquire clinical epilepsy data and perform analysis for spike/seizure detection and source localization. This position requires hands-on-experience developing biomedical instrumentation.  Primary areas of interest include: (1) analog circuit design and signal acquisition, (2) experience with fNIRS hardware prototyping and, (3) optode fabrication, and (6) human experiments (not in particular order of preference).

Janis Grundmanis Postgraduate Fellowship for Latvian Students in USA, 2016

Association for the Advancement of Baltic Studies (AABS) is offering postgraduate fellowship of $15,000 for Latvian citizens to undertake graduate study in the United States. Preference will be given to applicants studying in the field of humanities or social sciences. Applications which are specific and factual, and which establish clear and attainable goals have the best chances for favorable review. By accepting a $15,000 Grundmanis Fellowship, the recipient will enter into a binding contract with the AABS to return to Latvia upon completion of studies in the United States.

Scholarship Description: The Janis Grundmanis Postgraduate Fellowship, established in the memory of Dr. J?nis Grundmanis, is an annual fellowship of $15,000 for graduate study in the United States. Recipients of the fellowship must be citizens of the Republic of Latvia, speak Latvian, and have their permanent residence in Latvia. Preference will be given to applicants studying in the field of humanities or social sciences.

Duration of award(s): The fellowship will consist of ten payments of $1,500 each, the first to be made upon arrival in the U.S. and enrolment, and nine monthly payments thereafter, predicated on satisfactory academic performance. At the discretion of the Committee, payment of all or part of the fellowship award may be made directly to the college or university, instead of the student. In any case, the AABS must receive proof of initial registration, as well as certification of the courses for which the student is enrolled at the beginning of each semester or quarter, and an official transcript at the end of each semester or quarter, in addition to monthly essay-style progress reports from the Fellows which will trigger the monthly stipend payments. The fellowship may be supplemented by other sources.
What does it cover? The value of fellowship is $15,000. By accepting a $15,000 Grundmanis Fellowship, the recipient will enter into a binding contract with the AABS to return to Latvia upon completion of studies in the United States. Failure of the student to resume residency in Latvia within one month after finishing the academic year in the U.S. will result in the automatic conversion of the fellowship award to a student loan which must be repaid to the AABS in full, with interest, within three years of the conversion date, unless an extension for the stay abroad had been granted by the AABS.
Selection Criteria: Applications which are specific and factual, and which establish clear and attainable goals have the best chances for favorable review. The finalists will be interviewed in Riga in both Latvian and English. After a full review, the Committee will select the successful candidate(s), but the grants will be conditional upon acceptance of the students for full-time study at an accredited college or university in the United States for the full academic year.
Notification: Award notification will be made in March 2016.

-Proof of Latvian citizenship – scanned copies of relevant pages of the passport of the Republic of Latvia indicating citizenship;
-A two-page (maximum 500 words) statement of purpose in English describing the proposed studies and how they will further the student’s overall educational goals.;
-Curriculum vitae;
-Officially certified copies of university transcripts along with a copy of the diploma or a statement on the expected date of graduation;
-The university or universities in the U.S. at which the studies are to be carried out. Preference will be given to applicants who have applied for admission and are able to document actual contact with relevant departmental professors at a university;
-Two letters of support from current or recent professors or lecturers who have read the statement of purpose and can comment on the feasibility of the proposed study in the context of the student’s overall study program.
-A statement regarding the applicant’s current English language skills.

NASF Scholarship Award for Undergraduate and Graduate Students in USA, 2015-2016

Applications are invited for NASF scholarship award program for the 2015-2016 academic year. Both national and international students can apply for these scholarships. Scholarships to college juniors, seniors and graduate students are offered in the amount of $1,500. Candidates must demonstrate academic achievement and involvement in extracurricular activities. The applications deadline is December 9, 2015.

Bursaries for Bachelor or Master Students at University of Italian Switzerland, 2013/14

University of Italian Switzerland is offering 5 bursaries for the academic year 2013/2014. These bursaries are awarded for pursuing master and undergraduate degree in the field of Informatics. Each bursary corresponds to the annual tuition fee and is renewable for two years in the case of the Bachelor degree and for one year in the case of a Master degree. Application deadline is July 31st, 2013.

Eligibility:
-The contest is open to students who will start their first year of Bachelor or Master studies in September 2013 at the Faculty of Informatics of USI.
-In the case of the Bachelor degree, only applicants who graduated from high school in 2013 with a cumulative grade point average of at least 5/6, for holders of a Swiss high school diploma, or no less than 85/100, for those who obtained a high school diploma in another country, are eligible.
-In the case of a Master degree, only candidates who completed their previous academic degree (usually the Bachelor) with a final GPA of at least 80/100 can participate. The candidate’s resume will also be considered. The decision will be made by a selected group from the Faculty of Informatics including the Academic Director of each Master programme.
