PhD Position in Neural/Biomedical Engineering at University of Rhode Island in USA, 2016

Scholarship Description: A Doctoral (PhD) student position in Biomedical Engineering, University of Rhode Island, RI, USA is available starting as soon as possible. The PhD student will be a primary contributor to Dr. Mankodiya’s Wearable Biosensing Lab in the Department of Electrical, Computer, and Biomedical Engineering at the University of Rhode Island. S/he will help conceptualize, develop, and validate a multi-channel functional near infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) system including hardware, firmware, and signal processing algorithms. The system will also acquire clinical epilepsy data and perform analysis for spike/seizure detection and source localization. This position requires hands-on-experience developing biomedical instrumentation.  Primary areas of interest include: (1) analog circuit design and signal acquisition, (2) experience with fNIRS hardware prototyping and, (3) optode fabrication, and (6) human experiments (not in particular order of preference).

Janis Grundmanis Postgraduate Fellowship for Latvian Students in USA, 2016

Association for the Advancement of Baltic Studies (AABS) is offering postgraduate fellowship of $15,000 for Latvian citizens to undertake graduate study in the United States. Preference will be given to applicants studying in the field of humanities or social sciences. Scholarship Description: The Janis Grundmanis Postgraduate Fellowship, established in the memory of Dr. J?nis Grundmanis, is an annual fellowship of $15,000 for graduate study in the United States. Recipients of the fellowship must be citizens of the Republic of Latvia, speak Latvian, and have their permanent residence in Latvia. Preference will be given to applicants studying in the field of humanities or social sciences.

Duration of award(s): The fellowship will consist of ten payments of $1,500 each, the first to be made upon arrival in the U.S. and enrolment, and nine monthly payments thereafter, predicated on satisfactory academic performance. At the discretion of the Committee, payment of all or part of the fellowship award may be made directly to the college or university, instead of the student. In any case, the AABS must receive proof of initial registration, as well as certification of the courses for which the student is enrolled at the beginning of each semester or quarter, and an official transcript at the end of each semester or quarter, in addition to monthly essay-style progress reports from the Fellows which will trigger the monthly stipend payments. The fellowship may be supplemented by other sources.
What does it cover? The value of fellowship is $15,000. By accepting a $15,000 Grundmanis Fellowship, the recipient will enter into a binding contract with the AABS to return to Latvia upon completion of studies in the United States. Failure of the student to resume residency in Latvia within one month after finishing the academic year in the U.S. will result in the automatic conversion of the fellowship award to a student loan which must be repaid to the AABS in full, with interest, within three years of the conversion date, unless an extension for the stay abroad had been granted by the AABS.
Selection Criteria: Applications which are specific and factual, and which establish clear and attainable goals have the best chances for favorable review. The finalists will be interviewed in Riga in both Latvian and English. After a full review, the Committee will select the successful candidate(s), but the grants will be conditional upon acceptance of the students for full-time study at an accredited college or university in the United States for the full academic year.
Notification: Award notification will be made in March 2016.

-Proof of Latvian citizenship – scanned copies of relevant pages of the passport of the Republic of Latvia indicating citizenship;

-Officially certified copies of university transcripts along with a copy of the diploma or a statement on the expected date of graduation;

CASVA Paul Mellon and Ailsa Mellon Bruce Visiting Senior Fellowship in USA, 2016-2017

The CASVA invites applications for visiting fellowship from scholars who have held the PhD for five years or more at the time of application, or who possess an equivalent record of professional accomplishment. The Center awards up to 12 short-term (up to 60 days) fellowships annually. Fellowships are for full-time research, and scholars are expected to reside in Washington and to participate in the activities of the Center throughout the fellowship period. Scholarship Description: The Center for Advanced Study in the Visual Arts announces its program for Paul Mellon and Ailsa Mellon Bruce Visiting Senior Fellowships. Fellowships are for full-time research, and scholars are expected to reside in Washington and to participate in the activities of the Center throughout the fellowship period. Lectures, colloquia, and informal discussions complement the fellowship program. Each visiting senior fellow is provided with a study. In addition, visiting senior fellows who relocate to Washington are provided with housing in apartments near the Gallery, subject to availability. Visiting senior fellows have access to the notable resources represented by the art collections, the library, and the image collections of the National Gallery of Art, as well as to the Library of Congress and other specialized research libraries and collections in the Washington area.

The Hertz Foundation is offering graduate fellowship award to support graduate students working towards the PhD degree at one of the foundation’s currently participating schools. The graduate fellowship award is based on merit (not need) and consists of a cost-of-education allowance and a personal-support stipend. The Five-Year Hertz Fellowship award (Option 1) is renewable for up to 5 years, the Five-Year Hertz Coordinated (Option 2) is awarded for two years. Other fellowship is awarded up to three years. The application deadline is 30th October, 2015.
Study Subject(s): It is up to each fellowship applicant to advocate to his or her specific field of interest as an “applied physical science”: Aeronautics/Astronautics, Applied Mathematics and Statistics, Applied Physics and Astronomy, Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Earth and Geo Sciences, Electrical, Mechanical, Civil and Nuclear Engineering, Materials Science and Quantitative Biology and Bio-Engineering.

Eligibility:
-Eligible applicants for Hertz Fellowships must be students of the applied physical,biological and engineering sciences who are citizens or permanent residents of the United States of America, and who are willing to morally commit to make their skills available to the United States in time of national emergency (see our Moral Commitment section).
-College seniors wishing to pursue the PhD degree in any of the fields of particular interest to the Foundation, as well as graduate students already in the process of doing so, may apply. We generally do not award fellowships to students who are already beyond their first year of graduate study except in cases of “exceptional leverage.” Such awards are very rare—only three have been made in the past 10 years.

MMMF Grants for Women of Developing Countries

Applications are invited for MMMF grants available for women applicants of developing countries to pursue their degree in the USA and Canada. Applicants must enrolled (in residence) at an accredited U.S. or Canadian educational institution for the full academic year in which the application is submitted and intend to be enrolled for the subsequent year covered by the grant. An MMMF grant covers only a portion of the total costs for an academic year. Therefore, applicants need to access other financial resources. AAUW International Fellowships for Women

Applications are invited for AAUW International Fellowships available for women who are not US citizens or permanent residents. The program provides support for one year of graduate or postgraduate study at US institutions. Preference is given to women who show prior commitment to the advancement of women and girls through civic, community, or professional work. A limited number of awards are available to women who are members of the International Federation of University Women for study in any country other than their own. Rotary Peace Fellowships for International Students

The Rotary Foundation awards up to 100 fully funded academic fellowships for the citizens from around the world. Two types of peace fellowships are available i.e. master and professional development certificate fellowships. The master programs last 15­–24 months and require a practical internship of 2–3 months during the academic break at premier universities in Australia, UK, Sweden, Japan and USA. The professional development certificate program is a 3-month program which incorporates 2–3 weeks of field study. These Rotary Peace fellowships will be awarded in fields related to peace and conflict resolution and prevention. Applications for 2017-18 fellowships will be available 1 December.
